Non-Toxic Baby Bath Time Staples

We're huge fans of bath time rituals for mama (or pop) and baby. Bath time should be a time to get clean while relaxing and winding down from your crazy day. What isn't relaxing is having too many products and toys in the bathtub or worrying about toxic chemicals being absorbed through your babies sensitive skin.

Did you know that "In the 1990s, the Environmental Protection Agency acknowledged that a person can absorb more chlorine and other contaminants from bath and shower water than even from drinking water polluted with the same substances"? While our kids spend up to 45 minutes in the bath several times a week, this is no bueno. Our solution? Take fewer baths and invest in a few game-changing products to help keep bath time relaxing sans the icky chemicals.

It's no secret that we are all about less is more and that is also true when it comes to choosing what products to buy for bath time with your little. Here are 6 non-toxic baby bath products we know you will get a ton of use out of and also reap the benefits of reducing your babies exposure to chemicals during bath time.

1. Tubby Todd Hair & Body Wash

Even a lot of natural baby shampoos can aggravate cradle cap and cause dry skin. This one is a pure, hypoallergenic wash that really lathers like it matters! Packed with natural extracts and plant-based ingredients this wash softens, cleans, and moisturizes your little one.

 

2. Numper Organic Bamboo Mulit-Use Wash Towel

When bathing you're healthy, but chunky babe a washcloth is going to be super helpful for cleaning all of the creases and crevices under the arms, behind the ears, around the neck, and in the diaper area. 3. Oli & Carol 100% Natural Bath Toy

4. Organic Hooded Blanket

5. Vitamin C 

Vitamin C is great for the immune system, but it can also play a role in reducing the chemicals in bath water. Most municipal water supplies use Chlorine to help reduce the number of pathogens in the water. Neutralize chlorine more effectively with the Sodium Ascorbate form of Vitamin C. Add a teaspoon to neutralize your bath water 2-5 minutes before putting your babe in.

 

6. Epson Salt Bath Recipe (note: because this recipe includes essential oils, we do not recommend it for babies under 3 months old)

• 1/2 cup of food-grade epsom salts or magnesium flakes(magnesium flakes are absorbed much more easily)

• 1/4 cup Himalayan or Sea Salt

• 1/4 tsp of natural vanilla extract

• 4 - 5 drops of diluted essential oil of choice (I love 2-4 drops of dōTERRA Lavender essential oil mixed with 2 tbsps carrier oil.) 

I mix the salt and magnesium flakes and then sprinkle with the vanilla and essential oil. Add the mixutre to your bath and enjoy.
